The FPA™ of Masssachusetts has several volunteer opportunities and other newsworthy items...Please contact the administrative office via email or phone at 781-899-3530 if you would like to participate.

Unlike any time in our chapter's history, you, as a FPA® MA Member, have the unique opportunity to choose where you will share your unique talents and gifts. This year we are launching not one, but two powerful volunteer programs in Boston. With enthusiasm and excitement, we highlight the first of the two programs:

Financial Coaches
Responsibility: You will meet with the patient/family to discuss the various strategies to help them. These face-to-face meetings are held at Dana Farber in Boston (parking provided) or at a location that is convenient for you and the patient.
Time Commitment: This role requires various time frames. It could be as little as an hour in the initial meeting or it could be up to 1 year. Possible multiple face-to-face meetings and some follow-up via email or phone.

Speakers
Responsibility: You present a seminar or series of seminars on financial topics. PowerPoint and materials are provided to you.
Time Commitment: Each seminar is scheduled for approximately 2 hours. To be held at Dana Farber in Boston (parking provided).

Financial Experts
Responsibility: You provide advice to the Financial Coach on your area of expertise such as Debt, Health Insurance, Taxes etc.
Time Commitment: This advice is given either via email or phone and most likely is short term.

Please contact me, Rick Fingerman with your questions. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing our collective excitement for this very worthwhile project.

JA Worldwide® (Junior Achievement)
FPA recognizes the overwhelming need to educate young people about financial responsibility and we’re excited to announce that JA Worldwide® (Junior Achievement) and FPA are partnering to improve financial literacy for America’s youth. By partnering with Junior Achievement, FPA hopes to educate America’s youth on the benefits of financial planning while at the same time support Junior Achievement’s core purpose to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy.

FPA, working in partnership with Junior Achievement, would provide the bridge between financial literacy and education by teaching kids the financial planning process, their role in the economy, and the importance of education to their success in life. FPA and JA Worldwide’s national alliance launched during FPA’s Financial Planning Week, October 1-7, 2007. The national alliance asks for FPA chapters to work with their local Junior Achievement area offices to make valuable programs available to children a round the country by providing an essential educational resource – volunteers. Junior Achievement will provide the training, program materials and support to match FPA volunteers with schools requesting Junior Achievement programs.

JA in a Day at the Murkland School in Lowell on Thursday, April 10th
Kristine Blum is looking for some volunteers for Thursday April 10 at the Murkland School in Lowell to teach grades 1-4. Training can either be done by Kristin in person or online at the volunteer’s convenience. Everything is included in the kits so the only thing needed is volunteers! The day usually lasts from about 9 AM – 1 PM or so, and it’s amazing to see how much fun and learning can take place in that one day and the tremendous impact you can have on these deserving students. For more information contact Kristine Blum via email. Note that Randolph JA event in November was a huge success!

Important Military Pro Bono Opportunity Available!

The FPA, on both the national and Massachusetts level, is proud to announce their involvement in assisting families affected by US military efforts overseas. The FPA is providing services to families who have questions on mortgages, credit, investments, budgeting, planning, wills, etc.

The FPA of Massachusetts represents approximately 1,200 members and would like to fairly represent our Chapter in this very important role. The families are in dire need of our guidance. While there is no cost or to you, this represents an excellent opportunity to give back to our soldiers, their families and to our country for their extraordinary efforts. We believe you will find the experience to be extremely rewarding.

Involvement can be in one of two ways:

  • be available and respond to emails from the families (approximately one every 2-3 weeks at the current rate of inquiries) or,
  • be available to work with families in person, one-on-one (less frequent; approximately once every 3-4 months)

If you are interested in either of the two possibilities stated above and a CFP® in good standing, please email the FPA of MA Office with your name and involvement wishes. You will be notified by the FPA before any further involvement.

Thank you for your consideration and efforts in this initiative. Any further questions can be directed to Mark Passacantando at 781-762-7622 or fpp@peoplpc.com.
